DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A paramedic with the Deerfield Township Fire Department has been confirmed to have the H1N1 virus.

Fire Chief Chris Eisele says the person was immediately placed on medical leave.

"The health and welfare of our citizens is, and will always be, our top priority," Chief Eisele said. "We will continue to implement the safety protocols already in place to ensure that every firefighter, EMT and paramedic who responds to a citizen is free of illness."

Earlier this year Deerfield Township Fire Rescue Department reviewed and implemented H1N1 virus infection precautions as mandated by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Because those precautions were in place, this singular case was immediately isolated to prevent spread of the virus to other members of the department or the public.

"We will continue to uphold the strictest health and safety standards and precautions to provide our residents the superior care they have come to rely on," said Chief Eisele.
