Large fire in Avondale displaces 10 people

AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) - Fire crews are investigating a 3-alarm fire in Avondale.

Flames broke out just after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of Fred Shuttlesworth, where a three-story, multi-family dwelling was on fire.

Crews arrived to find heavy flames and smoke showing from the second floor. Shortly after crews got there, they were told to get out of the building and take a defensive approach.

A third alarm was called shortly after noon after crews had trouble with water pressure and had to use a water main on Reading Road.

The fire was contained a short time later, and crews were able to make their way inside to battle any hot spots.

The building holds six apartments. One of the residents said no one was home because they were all attending a Bible Study at 1st New Shiloh Baptist Church, which is right next store.

No one was injured, and the Red Cross is assisting the ten people who are displaced as a result of the fire.

Cincinnati Fire PIO Capt. Michael Washington says the damage was contained to the building of origin and did not spread to surrounding homes.

Washington says the fire is under investigation.
