ALEXANDRIA, KY (FOX19) - The Alexandria Police Department has issued an alert, telling residents to lock their cars.

The department has had several thefts from un-locked vehicles reported just in the last few days.

Alexandria Police say these crimes are typically taking place in subdivisions where crooks can move from car to car easily during the overnight hours. The thieves are taking whatever they can find, from spare change and GPS units to stereos and CDs.

The suspects aren't breaking in to vehicles, just finding these cars unlocked.

"We had about four or five over last weekend and usually that is the pre-cursor to letting us know that its getting ready to start up again, so that is why we got the word out to everyone," said Lt. George Schreiner with the Alexandria Police Department.

Another police report says there is a case where someone didn't lock their door at a gas station, and a thief stole cash from the center console when that victim went into pay.

Anyone with information on these crimes should call the Alexandria Police Department or Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
