CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Hamilton County Sheriff Simon Leis sent a letter to his employees Tuesday, saying he's "optimistically cautious" about no more layoffs in 2009 or 2010.

Sheriff Simon Leis has faced budget cuts the past few years, and is facing more cuts in the 2010 budget.

However, Leis says in the letter, "Through the dedication and hardship of our current and recently laid off staff, we have been able to cut costs and produce more with less."

Leis says he has been secure grants that will retain over 23 positions, secure indigent levy funding, reach agreement with townships to save patrol staff and reduce overtime.

"I am hopeful that with our continued efforts and current projections that we will not need to lay off any further," he said in the letter.

Leis says that he will spend commissary and forfeiture monies if the budget situation turns worse in the coming months.
