Butler Co. sheriff 'concerned' over weekend shootings

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones says he is "concerned" over three shootings that happened over the weekend.

The shootings happened in Fairfield during a robbery attempt; in Hamilton after an alleged robbery led to a man being shot in the head; and in Wayne Township where a man was shot in the head during what appears to be an argument. In addition, a man and woman were found shot to death on Monday morning in Fairfield. That incident has been ruled a murder-suicide.

"Having three shootings in this county in one weekend does concern me," said Sheriff Jones. "It concerns me not only for the victims but for the citizens of the county who may have to depend on a depleted law enforcement agency for help - when it's needed most."

Butler County has been battling budget issues most of the year. In July, the county cut $3.5 million from its county departments.

Jones says the shootings have put a strain on law enforcement agencies who have already or who may be facing layoffs of officers.
