UPDATE: Police say man who went into women's restroom made a mistake

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Police say the man who entered a women's restroom last month at Riverview Park  simply made an honest mistake.

On October 27, Miami township Police received a complaint of a man following a 9-year-old girl into the women's restroom. The mother of the girl noticed the man enter the restroom shortly after her daughter. She then went into the restroom to make sure that her daughter was alright and escorted her out of the restroom.

Police say the man has been identified as a parent of a girl who was at the park during soccer practice. The suspect has been cooperative with detectives and told officials that he mistakenly went into the women's restroom.

The man says he went into the restroom stall  and didn't realize he was in the women's restroom until he heard the mother of the girl talking at the adjacent stall. When he realized he was in the women's restroom, he stayed in the stall until the mother and daughter left the restroom. he told police that he didn't think anyone was aware that he was in the restroom and didn't want to say anything that would alarm the mother and child.

he waited in the stall until they left because he was embarrassed that he had entered the wrong restroom and did not want his mistake to embarrass his daughter.

Miami Township Police say they believe the man  made an honest mistake and no charges will be filed.

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Police are investigating a report of an attempted child enticement in a park restroom.

A short time before 6 p.m. on Oct. 26, police say a male entered the Riverview Park restroom behind a 9-year-old girl and went into the next stall beside the girl. The suspect then passed a small toy from a McDonald's Happy Meal.

The mother of the girl noticed the man going into the restroom after her daughter and went to check on her. The suspect was already in the neighboring stall when the mother grabbed her daughter and fled the area.

"This mother had an eye on her and knew where she was at and potentially prevented something worse from happening," said Sgt. Al Fatute with Miami Township Police.

Police describe the suspect as a white male in his 20's or early 30's with shoulder length brown hair, a brown goatee, and was wearing red and black track pants with a gray shirt. The suspect was seen driving a newer model 4-door sedan possibly an Oldsmobile or a Honda.

Police are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call the Miami Township Police at 513-248-3721.

Police tell parents to remind their children not to approach strangers and not to accept gifts of any kind from anyone they may not know. Also, never get into a vehicle with anyone without their parent's permission.
