Fire destroys deputy's home

Posted by Trina Edwards - email

UNION, KY (FOX19) - A 2-alarm fire has destroyed the home of a local sheriff's deputy.

The call went out just after noon in the 1100 block of Mistywood Court in Union

Investigators say because the deputy and his family were gone, the fire was able to build up before anyone noticed.

"He and his family had left, I believe they went into Florence," said Boone County Sheriff's spokesman Tom Scheben. "When neighbors saw the smoke and called the fire department. Shortly after that they went ahead and called the owner, and his family came back."

The house is a total loss. The fire also damaged homes on either side, melting the siding.

The cause remains under investigation.
