Man who sparked chase that injured officer sentenced

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - A man who started a chase that injured an officer on Interstate 75 was sentenced Friday.

Thomas Joyce, 32, will spend 42 years behind bars.

Joyce robbed the Walgreen's in West Chester on April 20, and then started a chase down I-75. Lockland officer Brandon Gehring was attempting to lay stop sticks when he was struck by a West Chester police cruiser. Gehring sustained serious injuries, but he has since returned to the police force.

Joyce was sentenced on several charges, including robbery, failure to comply, aggravated vehicular assault, vehicular assault, operating a vehicle under the influence, and several drug charges.
