CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - 20 young chefs tested their skills Sunday in a competition reminiscent of a reality TV show at the Midwest Culinary Institute.

The Cincinnati chapter of the "Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs" sponsored the competition for chefs 27-years-old and younger.  Many of the competitors are students or recent graduates of cooking school.  Others are working for local chefs.

Each chef got a basket full of ingredients they had not seen in advance.  Contestants then had to plan and prepare a three-course meal for four people.

The winner will get a chance to compete at the regional level in St. Louis, MO.  The national competition will be held in New York, NY.  The International level is in Paris, France.

Sunday's winner Andrew Mersmann.  2nd place went to Jason Buckreis who made pasta from scratch.  And Derek Bush, a St. Xavier graduate, took 3rd place.  All three received medals, and all were invited to dinner at the Summit.
