LOUISVILLE, KY (FOX19) - If you were at Churchill Downs Sunday, you may have noticed more pink than normal, as the track held special events to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Horses and Hope raises money from people involved in the horse industry like jockeys, owners and trainers, to help backside workers become more aware of the disease and get breast cancer screenings. The program has raised $100,000 in the last year.
Sunday survivors packed the track to celebrate the program's success.
"Tthey're wining their greatest race and at the same time, raising funds to be able to provide services for those folks that work on the back of the track," says Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear, who created Horses and Hope.
