AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) - Family members said Randy Ward, Jr. was killed Tuesday during what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop.

Ward, Jr.'s mother and step-father were devastated on Tuesday evening. His parents said they're unsure exactly what happened earlier in the day, but Ward, Jr.'s step-father Robert Johnson said lately, Ward, Jr. was under a lot of stress. Johnson says he believes that could have led to his death.

Johnson said he last spoke with his step-son on Monday.
Johnson said Ward, Jr. leaves behind a 5-year-old son. Johnson said he got that fateful call Tuesday afternoon while he was watching Ward, Jr.'s son at basketball practice.
"I mean, he's five years old," Johnson said. "He doesn't have a clue. He doesn't know what's going on. He saw it on the news. Yeah, he said 'there's goes my daddy's car.' so we've got to deal with that, too."
Johnson said police told the family they have the incident on tape. The family is hoping that'll give them some answers.
