CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A alumnus of St. Xavier High School is finally getting his diploma 63 years after he graduated.
Joe Kirst skipped commencement exercises in 1946 to enlist in the military.
Kirst, who now lives in Fort Thomas, and about 20 other family members till attend Mass in the Chapel of the Holy Companions on Friday before attending a luncheon and the presentation of the diploma.
"It's not every day you have somebody in his 80s graduating," said John Schrantz, St. X alumni director. "I think it speaks well both of Mr. Kirst and of the school that having the diploma, even after all this time, is so important and so meaningful."
