SOUTH FAIRMOUNT, OH (FOX19) - Police are investigating an accident that killed one person Saturday afternoon.
A short time after 1:30 p.m., police were called to the scene for a report of an accident.
Police say Samira Abebe-Holt, 21, was traveling east on Westwood Avenue when she disregarded a traffic signal and struck 22-year-old Stephen Gilmore Jr., who was traveling south on Grand Avenue.
Abebe- Holt's vehicle then left the roadway and struck 26-year-old Matthew Ash. Police say the impact knocked him 50 feet. Ash was pronounced dead at the scene.
Abebe-Holt was transported to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say she was not wearing a seat belt. Two other passengers in Abebe-Holt's car suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.
There was also an infant in her car at the time of the accident. Gilmore was able to unstrap the child from the back of the car on its side and rescue the child, who was not injured.
So far no charges have been filed. Police will continue to investigate the incident.
