RISING SUN, IN (FOX19) - A 17-year-old boy is in police custody in connection with the death of a 10-year-old Ohio County boy.
The teenager will be in court Tuesday afternoon for a detention hearing.
The teen was arrested in connection with the death of Conner Conley, 10, whose body was found around 8:15 p.m. Sunday night in a wooded area near a city park.
An autopsy was performed Tuesday in Indianapolis to determine a preliminary cause of death. Police say the results of that autopsy are pending.
The 17-year-old is charged with battery causing serious bodily injury. He is being held at the juvenile detention center in Lawrenceburg. Depending on the autopsy results, the charges could be upgraded to murder.
"We're not saying that he killed him," said Sgt. Noel Houze with ISP. "Until we get results from an autopsy, they're not exactly sure what the cause of death was and the matter of death."
Houze admitted that police are not looking for any other suspects.
Counselors were available Monday at Conley's school, Ohio County Elementary and Middle School, where he was a fifth-grader.
"We are going to make sure they are on site as much as needed," said Stephen Patz, superintendent of Rising Sun schools. "Our hearts and prayers really go out to the family that's trying to deal with this tragedy right now.
Police won't say how or if the boys knew each other.
