CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Four female UC students were robbed at gunpoint at Dennis Street near the Calhoun Garage early Monday morning around 3 a.m.
According to University of Cincinnati police, three male suspects tried to steal their belongings when the women fought back. That's when on suspect pulled out a gun. The students gave up their purses and the suspects got away with a cell phone and some cash.
Police Chief Eugene Ferrara says this is, "an anomaly, we don't see violent crime on our campus."
But he has seen several robberies within the past two weeks within a half mile from campus. He cautions students to "be aware of what's going on around you and if your gut is telling you something go with that.'"
Paul Korchak, owner of Cincinnati Taekwondo Center on Red Bank Road, suggests remembering the four A's of defense - attitude, awareness, air and action.
He offers several self defense courses that helps people gain confidence to handle any threatening situation. But he says sometimes even with the best self defense knowledge, "sometimes the best thing to do is to give them your wallet."'
