ERLANGER, KY (FOX19) - Elsmere Police say a fight between a former couple may have led to the death of 23-year-old Nikia Comer.

Comer died Monday night around 7 p.m. on the street outside her Elsmere home.

Police say a man driving a black Dodge Neon with an Ohio license plate ran her down on Plymouth Avenue.

Sgt. Todd Cummins has identified the driver as 25-year-old Clifford E. Gardenhire. Cummins tells FOX19 the two had a child in common, and that at one point Gardenhire had taken out an emergency protective order (EPO) on Comer.

Gardenhire's at the Kenton County Detention Center and has been charged with first degree manslaughter. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs are a factor in this case.

Investigators are still looking into the incident. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday morning.
