CINCINNATI,OH (FOX19) - If you're at the post office on the busiest mailing day of the year, you need a plan.

For the folks at the Dalton Street postal center, it meant an early trip.

"Usually by about one o'clock in the afternoon, it gets very crowded," says Jim Rodecker, who swung by the post office around 10 a.m. Monday morning.

The post office will process more than 830 pieces of mail nationwide on this one day. That's up 40 percent from the average day. FEDEX and UPS say millions more will pass through their stores.

The bulk the hustle is from people with multiple packages.

Michael Johnson showed up at the Dalton Street post office with an armload.

"I think eight, eight or nine," says Johnson.

With so many packages headed across the country, the post office is ready with shipping tips for this, and every day of the holiday season.

"The number one thing is to look for the address, and get the zip code right. No zip code is worse than having the wrong zip code,"say Darrell Meyers, postmaster general for Cincinnati.

Postal workers also point out the Automated Postal Center, and the ease of printing labels online.
