CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A northern Kentucky man is going to jail for killing a woman's two cats.
Russell Swigart of Highland Heights apologized in court Monday before he became the first person sentenced to jail under a new Kentucky animal cruelty law. He got a year for each cat killing, plus ten years for burglary.
Swigart admitted in court to breaking into a neighbor's home in 2008. While committing the burglary, Swigart says he stabbed the woman's two cats. Then he apparently texted the cat owner about what he'd done after killing her cats.
The cat's owner told the court she believed Swigart's apology was insincere and was done only to influence the judge.
