FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - A Florence man has been charged after police caught him stealing from a jewelry store.

It happened just after 1 a.m. Thursday morning at Stafford Jewelers on Mall Road.

Police responded to a burglary alarm and the first officer on the scene noticed an unoccupied car in an adjacent lot with the motor running. The officer approached the jewelry store and noticed a side window had been shattered.

As officers positioned themselves around the store, a male suspect emerged from the broken window wearing a ski mask and carrying a duffel bag. He was apprehended without incident and found to have over $180,000 worth of items in the bag.

Police have charged Ryan Kirby, 39, of Florence, with theft by unlawful taking, burglary, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.
