Cincinnati ranked 9th literate city in USA

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A study out of Central Connecticut State University ranks Cincinnati as the ninth most literate city in the USA.

In 2008, Cincinnati ranked tenth, and in 2007 the city ranked 2007.  Cincinnati's highest ranking was sixth in 2006.

The America's Most Literate Cities study ranks 75 cities with populations of 250,000 and greater, examined education levels, Internet use, newspaper circulation, number of booksellers, library services and local publications.

Here's the cities making the top ten:

  1. Seattle, WA
  2. Washington, DC
  3. Minneapolis, MN
  4. Pittsburgh, PA
  5. Atlanta, GA
  6. Portland, OR
  7. St. Paul, MN
  8. Boston, MA
  9. Cincinnati, OH
  10. Denver, CO

Here is how Cincinnati ranked by category in the study:

Number of bookstores - tied for third.

Libraries - fifth.

Publications - eighth.

Newspaper circulation - 14th.

Internet resources - tied for 32nd.

Education level - 40th.
