MIAMI TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - It was 20 years ago that a Miami Township woman went missing.

Karen Spencer went missing on Dec. 30, 1989. She was 17 years old.

Detectives think they know what happened, but can't talk about specifics of the case.

"(We've) presented the case to Clermont County Prosecutor's Office for their review. Ultimately it will be their decision to go forward with charges," said Sgt. Al Fatute with Miami Township Police. "We think we have a substantial case."

Spencer had an argument with a relative and was last seen getting out of a car on Interstate 275 between the Montgomery Road and Route 28 exits. At the time, she was 5-foot-1 and weighed 120 pounds and had light brown hair and hazel-green eyes.

"In this particular case they not only lost their child, they don't know how they lost the child," said Fatute. "Twenty years of torment, of not knowing, living that nightmare its not something you get over or that goes away."
