CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Bearcat fans are psyched to hit the road. There was a small army of luxury buses lined-up outside the UC Alumni center Wednesday. The UC Alumni association coordinated the big trip south to the "Big Easy".
And it is no easy trip. It's expected to take 15 hours on those big buses.
Students lined-up by 7pm and the buses pulled-out between 8:30pm and 9pm.
If last year's excursion to the Orange Bowl was any indication as to how pumped the students are, they're headed to New Orleans undefeated, 12-0, it's a historic game and historic trip for sure.
There is one bit of controversy surrounding what Bearcat fans will be wearing once they get there. The University is cracking-down on sellers of unlicensed Bearcats team gear.
School officials said sales of licensed merchandise have more than doubled this football season, but the team's success has also boosted sales of unlicensed t-shirts, jerseys and other merchandise, and that deprives the University of a share of profits and erodes its trademark.
Among products targeted are "Mardy Gras" t-shirts, referring to wide receiver Mardy Gilyard and t-shirts in white, red and black made by bars.
Boosters and students stopped selling unlicensed merchandise after receiving warning letters, but some bar owners and national sales operations have persisted. UC said it plans to go to court and seek monetary damages.
The Bearcats take-on the Gators in the Sugar Bowl Friday night on FOX19. Game time is 8pm.
