Dear FOX19 School Alert Subscribers:
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the recent technical issues. FOX19 has utilized the same service provider to deliver text and e-mail alerts over the past few years, and have had very few issues in terms of delivery to the end user.
This past Tuesday (January 5), after sending several notices for school delays we began receiving some calls from users indicating that they either did not receive their message, their message was very delayed (in some instances up to 24 hours from time sent) and in some cases their messages duplicated numerous times.
In investigating the issue it appears that the service provider software experienced a fatal software error in communication with mobile service providers, which in turn caused significant problems.
As a result, FOX19 has made the decision to terminate the use of this system software. We did however make a final attempt to communicate with users on Wednesday, January 6 at 5:00 PM to inform them that the system was experiencing technical difficulties.
At the conclusion of this communication, all accounts were deleted from the system, and no additional notices will be sent using this software, and in fact the entire system has been terminated.
The programmers from the service provider worked most of the day on Thursday to purge the mail send queue that kept sending out messages. As of late yesterday afternoon they confirmed that this had been complete.
Therefore, you should no longer be receiving any notifications from this system.
Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
Please note that we have contracted a new company to provide alerts moving forward. This service is very close to complete and we will have information on its functionality and how to participate shortly.
