NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - Newport Central Catholic High School football coach Bob Schneider is retiring.
Schneider spent 44 years as the head coach for the Thoroughbreds, and is the all-time winningest high school football coach in Kentucky, with 338 wins.
Health issues sidelined the coach midway through last season.
"After consulting with my doctors and family I have decided I should resign as coach of the Thoroughbreds," said Schneider.
NCCHS Principal Bob Noll expressed his gratitude and respect for Coach Schneider.
"His commitment to not only our football program but our entire school is phenomenal," said Noll. "He has dedicated his life to the Catholic education of so many students through his coaching and teaching. He was instrumental in helping our school to begin our tuition assistance program. He has impacted the lives of so many young people over the years. He exemplifies the ideals and traditions of Newport Central Catholic. He is truly a legend."
"I am grateful to all the young men I have had the honor of coaching over the years and to all those who coached along side of me," said Schneider.
