HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Hamilton Police have arrested a suspect who tried to rob two different businesses in under an hour.

James Buttery, 39, was arrested Tuesday on a parole holder in Fairfield. He is being held in the Butler County Jail on a parole violation. Charges for the attempted robberies will be filed Wednesday.

Police say just before 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Buttery walked in to the Subway Restaurant on High Street and said, "This is a robbery, give me the money." He then jumped on the counter and attempted to steal the cash register, but the clerk pushed him off the counter and he fled on foot.

A half hour later, police say Buttery entered the Family Dollar Store on Dixie Highway and told the clerk he intended to rob the store and displayed the outline of a gun against his jacket. He tried to open the register, but was unsuccessful, and again fled on foot.
