Weiner School District in Ark. could consolidate with Delight School District

WEINER, AR (KAIT) – The Weiner School District has picked its partner in the state mandated consolidation of the school district.

Wednesday night at a public hearing, the Weiner School District voted 5-0 to an administrative consolidation with the Delight School District.

Superintendent Chuck Hanson says the proposal will be sent to the attorney who will prepare a petition to present to the Arkansas Board of Education.

The two school systems are about 200 miles apart.

The Weiner School District and the Delight School District must annex or consolidate with another district for having less than 350 students for two straight years.

A few weeks ago, Region 8 News reported of the possible consolidation, sighting two opinions by Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel that districts don't have to be contiguous in order to annex.

The Arkansas Department of Education still has to approve the consolidation, which could decide next month.

The new district would be called the Arcadia School District.
