Fire shuts down Meijer in Florence - Cincinnati News, Weather, Sports from FOX19 NOW-WXIX

UPDATE: Police investigate Meijer fire as arson

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Police in Florence are looking for three men who may be involved in starting a fire at the Meijer store on Houston Road.

Crews responded to the fire at 1:20 a.m. Monday morning and discovered flames in the automotive section at back of the store.

The sprinkler system was activated, and helped contain the fire to the paint aisle. However, several items are ruined due to water damage.

Despite high heat causing several aerosol spray paint cans to explode, no one was hurt.

The store was closed while investigators search for a cause. Officials say several items of merchandise may have to be thrown out due to smelling like smoke.

"It is suspicious," said Marc Muench, Florence Fire Chief. "We're reviewing tapes and interviewing employees at the store."

Witnesses reported seeing three suspicious males in the store prior to the fire.  The suspects were seen walking to the rear of the store and smoke was spotted a few minutes later in the same area.  Suspect number one is described as a white male, 21-23 years of age, 6'3" tall with medium build, brown hair and wearing a down cotton jacket and light blue jeans.  The second suspect is described as a white/male, 18-19 years of age, 6' tall with a medium build, light brown hair with facial acne and wearing a dark blue hoodie.  The third suspect is described as a white male, 18-19 years of age, 6' tall with a medium build and dark brown hair.  A witness reported seeing the suspects leave the area in a full size red SUV.

The fire is being investigated as an arson.  Anyone with information please contact Detective Ken Osborn with the Florence Police Department at (859) 647-5420.
