Louisville infant death investigated

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville police have brought abuse of corpse charges against the father of a 6-week-old boy found dead inside a vehicle in a residential area.

Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell says 44-year-old Robert W. Long Jr. also faces charges of menacing and tampering with physical evidence.

Police are investigating the death. Mitchell says the child appeared to have suffered some type of physical abuse. The Jefferson County coroner's office says an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

The boy was reported missing by his mother Wednesday morning, and Mitchell says the department received information in the afternoon that led officers to the body Wednesday afternoon.

The baby's name hasn't been released.
