CINCINNATI, OH (FOX10) - Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear made two stops Friday. One at the Northern Kentucky Chamber Of Commerce and the other, at a local business, just opening it's doors in Newport, KY.

Great news for northern Campbell County, as Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, made stops and championed important new job growth.

"At a time when 1 out of 10 Kentuckians is out of work, the addition of at least a hundred, new full time jobs is certainly cause for celebration," Beshear said.

Defender Direct will employ about a hundred people at first, with room to grow, and with a focus on their work family's growth too.

"Things like, I bought my first house, and I bought my first car and I'm debt-free," said company partner and Chief Marketing Officer at Defender Direct, Marcia Raab. "Those are the types of things that energize our business and cause us each to hit the ground running every day."

Defender Direct is a local call center, which services two, big national clients.

"We're the largest dealer in the nation for ADT Security Systems and also one of the top 5 dealers for Dish Network Satellite Systems," Raab said.

And with one quick snip of a giant pair of scissors, Governor Beshear opened his own honorary cubicle at Defender Direct and then made a call to the company's president.

"This is Steve Beshear, Governor of Kentucky, how are you?" said Beshear to the surprised executive on the other end of the line. We're very excited about having the company here and Newport is a great place to be located."

Defender Direct is also bringing new life to a busy shopping center in the heart of Newport, along Monmouth Street.

"And it's a great fit," said Boone County Judge Executive Gary Moore. "The workers here can walk, there's a gym down the way, there's places to eat, places to shop."

Raab echoed his sentiments, with an additional comment concerning the winter weather.

"There are restaurants, lodging, and when we get those big snowstorms, I'll be able to get them in and out of here pretty easily," Raab said.

Newport Mayor Jerry Peluso said he is so proud of his hometown. "This area is the mecca for some of the nicest people, the hardest-working people in the world, right here."

Defender Direct has been operating since January 13th.
