MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - A 7-year-old Middletown boy is in the hospital after he was struck by a car on his way home from school on Monday.
Police say the boy was hit near Amanda School on Oxford State Road just before 4 p.m. Police say there is a crosswalk with a school crossing guard in front of the school. Some children, including the victim, failed to use the crosswalk, and crossed the street after leaving school property.
Police say the driver of the car, Kayla Weber, of Hamilton, was driving slowly and had slight damage to her vehicle.
The child lost consciousness when he was struck, but was alert while being treated by paramedics. He was flown to Children's Hospital in Dayton.
No charges have been filed, but police are still investigating. Amanda Elementary School officials are holding an assembly Tuesday to remind students of pedestrian and school bus safety, and a patrol officer will be assigned to the area to make sure students are using the crosswalk.
