5 high school students taken to hospital after being sickened by fumes

NEW RICHMOND, OH (FOX19) - Police and firefighters responded to New Richmond High School Monday afternoon after several students reported feeling ill due to fumes.

Crews were called around 12:30 p.m. to the school on Bethel-New Richmond Road.

Emergency crews say 12 students reported feeling sick, and five of those students were to taken to the hospital to be checked out. The other seven were picked up by their parents.

The cause of the reported illness is believed to be carbon monoxide, but investigators say they are not positive of the cause.

The school was evacuated, and students were taken to the nearby middle school.
