MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) -- One man is in the hospital after hit- and-run accident turns into a road rage crash in Middletown Saturday afternoon.

A short time after 4:00pm, Middletown Police received numerous calls about a two vehicles driving recklessly on Verity Parkway and later on Breiel Boulevard.

Witnesses say that a Lincoln Town car was chasing a Pontiac Grand Am. The Lincoln rammed the Pontiac causing the vehicle to lose control and hit a tree in the median, split in half, and continued south on Breiel Boulevard in the northbound lanes for another 140 feet.

An investigation revealed that the incident began when the drivers, 34-year-old Christopher Mosier and 64-year-old Jack Gentry, were involved in an accident at the intersection of Manchester and Clark. Mosier had ran a stop sign and struck Gentry's vehicle, then fled the scene.

Gentry then chased Mosier, ramming him numerous times. Mosier last control and struck a tree and split the car into two sections. The front section was tangled with the tree and caught on fire while the passenger continued down the road with the driver seat belted in.

Middletown Fire crews quickly put the fire out and transported Christopher Mosier to Atrium Hospital where he appears to have serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Mosier was charged with fleeing the scene of an accident, stop sign violation, and reckless operation.

Jack Gentry has been charged with felonious assault, and reckless operation. He is currently being held at the Middletown Jail.

Any witnesses to the incident are being asked to call 513-425-7700.
