HEBRON, KY (FOX19) - Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport used just two runways for most of the day because of Monday's snowstorm.
The airport's Barbara Schempf says they normally close one of their three north-south runways when a snowstorm like today's hits, while keeping the east-west runway open. On Monday, the east west runway closed, because the wind direction makes them thought they won't need that runway.
She says that with reduced traffic because of the weather, the two runways can handle the load. ( The airport has also seen its total number of flights reduced over the last couple of years due to Delta cutting service. )
Periodically they are closing one of the two runways in order to clear off the latest batch of snow. Schempf had not heard of major problems being caused by that on Monday.
