CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -- The Clermont County Sheriff's Office is alerting residents of a possible security alarm scam.
On Friday, officials received a report of a suspicious call that may affect homes and businesses with security alarm systems.
The citizen reported that they received a call from a man claiming to be with ADT Security. The man asked if the security system on the premises was still active and was currently being monitored. The citizen refused to answer and hung up the phone.
The Clermont County Sheriffs Office checked with ADT and revealed that they do not make "cold calls" to its customers because they already know if the they are currently receiving monitored alarm service.
If you receive calls like this, officials say do not answer any questions about your security system.
Authorities say you should record the number and report it to your local law enforcement agency if you have Caller ID.
The Sheriff's Office also advises that you contact your security alarm provider and tell them about the incident.
