FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - Three people are dead after a pair of car crashes that happened within an hour and fifteen minutes.
The crashes happened early Sunday morning at the intersection of South Gilmore and Mack Roads on the south end of town, and at Route 4 and St. Clair Avenue near the Hamilton border.
In the first crash, at 1:09 a.m., police say Michael Willis, 57, of Maineville, was driving north on S. Gilmore Road with his passenger, Teresa Cardish, 20, of Norwood, when they were struck by a vehicle traveling east on Mack Road. That vehicle was driven by Zaki Qayoumi, 26, of Springfield Township. Debris from the initial impact struck a third vehicle driven by Bari Cruze of Cincinnati.
Willis and Cardish were pronounced dead at the scene. Qayoumi and Cruze were taken to the hospital. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash.
In the second crash, which occurred at 2:23 a.m., Jose Santo-Garcia, 26, of Fairfield, was traveling south on Dixie Highway when he went left of center, and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Spencer Steed, 17, of Hamilton. Three other juveniles were in the car, but no one in that car was injured. Santo-Garcia's car then struck another northbound vehicle head-on, driven by Alice Tucker, 38, of Hamilton.
Santo-Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. Tucker was taken to Fort Hamilton Hospital and is in serious condition. Police say alcohol may have been a factor, but test results are pending.
