CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Two Cincinnati Police officers were threatened with a gun by a suspect who isn't even in high school yet.
Police say a 12-year-old boy threatened to shoot three people Sunday evening in Over-the-Rhine.
The suspect spent the night at the 2020 Juvenile Detention Center for threatening a man, then telling two Cincinnati Police officers, "I'm going to blow your heads off with a TEK 9."
"Kids now settle regular fist fights with weapons," said Harvey Reed, superintendent at 2020.
Reed says they are seeing kids younger and younger because of guns.
"They're just lost," he said. "A lot of kids feel that being safe, they need to carry a weapon. It's sad."
Reed says most of the kids they see come from broken homes, some are homeless and lots are being raised by and on the streets.
"Kids are raising themselves. The old family values thing isn't there," said Reed. "It's a changing world and these kids are caught up in some of it."
The 12-year-old was released from 2020 Monday morning by a magistrate. Police have charged him with aggravated menacing, but say there was no weapon recovered at the scene.
