RIPLEY COUNTY, IN (FOX19) -- The Indiana State Police are investigating an accident that sent a pregnant to the hospital early Thursday morning.
Just after 5:00am, 22-year-old Mario Coronel - Ruiz was traveling east on Interstate 74 just east of the Sunman exit when he lost control of his vehicle on the snow- covered, slick roadway. The vehicle then entered the median and overturned, ejecting the front seat passenger.The vehicle then rolled into the westbound lanes, accelerated and truck a guardrail before coming to a rest 200 feet away.
Officials believe that the driver may have panicked and hit the accelerator when the vehicle rolled back onto its wheels.
The passenger, 19-year-old Guadalupe Carillo- Campa was transported to Margaret - Mary Hospital in Batesville after CPR was performed at the scene. She was later transported to University Hospital where she is listed in critical condition. Carillo - Campa suffered serious internal and head injuries and is reported to be 10 weeks pregnant.
Coronel - Ruiz suffered some minor facial injuries, but was released form the hospital.
The incident is still under investigation.
