Neighbors upset, scared after overnight Newport shooting

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - People living in the East Row Historic District are upset after an overnight robbery and shooting.

One person was shot just before 2 a.m. Friday morning on 8th Street and Overton in the area.

Police say the male victim was shot in the shoulder and also stated that he and his wife were robbed. The victim was taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a heavyset black male with facial hair, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black vest.

Several neighbors came out of their homes after the heard the gunshots to talk with police. Susan Tabor told us what she saw.

"They had flashlights and were looking for gun shells. And obviously they knew that it happened in the alley not far from where I live here," she told FOX19. She says she had trouble falling asleep afterwards.

The investigation is ongoing. Friday morning, Newport Police returned to the area to search for more witnesses and clues. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
