UNION, KY (FOX19) - Karen Kappelman's death stunned her classmates.
"We're shocked just stunned that this has happened," said Ryle High School principal Matt Turner.
Fifteen-year-old Kappelman started at Ryle in October when her family moved to Boone County.
Her principal describes her as a "good kid, who was just starting to get comfortable at Ryle."
"She was just very quiet polite sweet very respectful just a nice young lady," said Turner.
Kappelman's body was found Sunday morning laying in the snow outside an apartment complex. She was clothed only in a tanktop with a blanket next to her.
The Boone County Sheriff's Department is treating the case as suspicious.
Meanwhile the county coroner says there was not outward sign of trauma to her body. They will wait for toxicology reports to determine her cause of death. Results are not expected in for a week.
The Ryle High School community is devastated. Counselors visited with students in each of her classes on Monday.
"We have to talk about it deal with it and it's ok to do just that cry if we need to cry. Learning that we're all mortal is a tough thing," said Turner.
