Charter school bill filed in KY House; named for late talk show host

FRANKFORT, KY (Raycom Network News) – In November 2009, we took an extensive look at the pros and cons of charter schools. Now, two members of the Kentucky House have filed a bill in the that would allow charters schools in the Bluegrass.

State Representatives Brad Montell of Shelbyville and Stan Lee are co-sponsors of House Bill 583 is also called "The Francene Cucunillo Act" in honor of the late 84WHAS Radio talk show host. Before her death in January, Francene held numerous discussions about charter school legislation and questioned why the schools were illegal in Kentucky.

Charter schools have existed in neighboring Indiana for years.

Francene Cucunillo also worked as a part-time reporter for FOX19 in Cincinnati.
