MONROE, OH (FOX19) - Emerging from the waters, the gigantic statue of Jesus Christ along I-75 in Warren County, can't help but catch your eye every time, but if you look a little closer you'll see, even the giant eight ton Jesus has suffered the wear and tear of a harsh winter.
"The deterioration is a little bit noticeable when you get up close,"said Pastor Lawrence Bishop of Solid Rock Church.
After four years of standing strong and weathering the storm, Bishop says this winter's constant snow, sleet and ice, is slowly starting to chip away at the landmark statue -- so, now the 62 foot sculpture made of steel, fiber glass and Styrofoam is getting an almighty makeover.
"We plan on painting it this year, some of the staff had noticed it and said we needed to get something done with it this year," Bishop said.
This time around the may even look at putting a protective coating over the paint job, to make certain the statue can withstand the storm.
"Hopefully we'll restore it and keep it in good shape," Bishop said.
Because Pastor Bishop says for many it's more than a statue but a symbol of hope.
"It's kind of like a guiding light to a lot of people," Bishop said.
The church hasn't begun pricing the paint job yet , but plans to start by June.
