Indiana teen "wakes up" to drug charges

CONNERSVILLE, IN (FOX19) - A Connersville teen was arrested for drug charges Tuesday after police found him asleep in his car.

Police received a report of a suspct asleep behind the wheel in the Cherry Hill Shopping Plaza on Western Avenue around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police responded and found a blue Honda, sitting half in a parking space and half in a driving lane. A nearby witness told investigators the subject had been there over an hour. The vehicle was running and a male was asleep behind the wheel.

After knocking on the window didn't work, an officer reached in the door, shut the car off, and had to shake the man to awaken him.  The subject had to be helped from the vehicle.

K9 units arrived on the scene and indicated the presence of narcotics, and a search was done on the vehicle. Officers recovered prescription pills for someone else and several other items that were sent to the State Police Lab for analysis.

Arrested was Codey A. Tipton, 19, of Connersville, for Possession of a Legend Drug, Class "D" Felony; Operating While Intoxicated with Refusal, Class "A" Misdemeanor; Possession of Paraphernalia, Class "A" Misdemeanor and Public Intoxication, Class "B" Misdemeanor.  Tipton was lodged in the Fayette County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing, and further charges could be filed at a later date.
