State closes amusement park where boy was injured

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - State officials have shut down an indoor amusement park where a 5-year-old boy was critically injured last week.

John Erickson, a spokesman for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, says the Xscape party center didn't have an amusement and entertainment permit. That department includes the office of the State Fire Marshal, which issues the permits.

The state plans further inspections of the facility's rides in the wake of Friday's incident in which Denzel Jennings was knocked unconscious when he hit his head and fell from the Mini Teacups ride. The boy remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Police have not yet said how the accident might have occurred. A message seeking comment on the shutdown was left with Xscape general manager Mimo Tokmo.
