CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Zoo has received its first-ever female manatees.

"Turner" and "CC Baby" arrived late Wednesday night at the Manatee Springs Exhibit. They will be on display beginning Wednesday morning.

CC Baby is a 530-pound manatee who was rescued from the Caloosahatchee River in September 2007 as an orphaned calf and has been hand-raised at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo.

Turner, a 430 pound manatee, was rescued from the waters of Tampa Bay in January 2010 after suffering from natural cold stress.

The Cincinnati Zoo is one of two facilities outside Florida to participate in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's program, which has a mission of rescuing and rehabilitating distressed and injured Florida manatees.

Since the Cincinnati Zoo opened Manatee Springs in 1999, seven manatees have been released back into the wild. CC Baby and Turner are scheduled for release in the winter of 2011.

The zoo has upgraded its manatee exhibit in preparation for its new residents.
