IRG purchases former Batavia Ford plant

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - The State of Ohio has issued $6.1 million in bonds to IRG, which will allow the company to acquire the former Ford plant in Batavia.

The funds were wired and the property title has been transferred.

IRG has indicated it will immediately begin work to make improvements to the office portion of the site required by the first tenant, the University of Cincinnati (UC); having title to the property will also enable IRG to begin marketing manufacturing space at the site.

"This is great first step in the revitalization of the Ford Plant; this site has the potential to be a real industrial center in Clermont County," said Board of Clermont County Commissioners (BCC) Vice President Ed Humphrey.

UC has a five-year lease for 81,000 square feet of office space with an option to buy up to 45 acres from IRG.  The university has indicated it wants to begin offering classes at the site this fall; plans include an expansion of courses offered at UC's nearby Clermont College, such as offering a four-year nursing degree and a two-year physical therapy program.

"The expansion of UC in Clermont County is great news for local citizens to obtain a four-year degree without leaving the county," said BCC President Bob Proud.  "I look forward to the new life that IRG will give the former Ford plant.  The welcome mat is out to businesses looking to move into or expand in Clermont County."

As part of the transaction, IRG will transfer 36 acres to the Clermont Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) that will ultimately be sold back to IRG over a three year period beginning in 2012.  An additional 7.4 acres will be transferred to the Clermont Transportation Improvement District (TID) for eventual improvements to the SR32 interchange at that location.
