CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A little girl was found safe after she was sitting in the backseat of a car that was stolen Tuesday morning in Over-the-Rhine.

The white 4-door Corolla with Kentucky plates was reported stolen around 11 a.m. near the corner of Elm and McMicken in Over the Rhine. The 5-year-old girl was in the backseat.

The car was registered to an owner in Lexington, and the grandfather of the girl was reportedly driving it at the time. The grandfather said he and another man ran into a store, leaving the girl in the car.

The grandfather then claimed a black male, 5'11" and wearing all black clothing pulled a gun on him and stole the car.

The car was located unoccupied around 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Calumet and Winkler. The car seat the girl was riding in was located at Rice and Mulberry, apparently tossed from the car.

Just after noon, police reported the child had been found safe with her mother in the 5600 block of Viewpointe Drive, which is eight miles away from where the car was stolen. The child was taken to Children's Hospital to be checked out. It's still unclear how she got to the apartment.

Police are questioning the mother and continuing to try and piece together the investigation.

The suspect has still not been found. No charges have been filed.
