Highland County father indicted in sons' deaths

HILLSBORO, OH (FOX19) - A Highland County father has been indicted for the deaths of his two sons.

The charges for Wesley Coonrod, 42, have been upgraded to one count of aggravated arson, two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder and two counts of felony child endangering. A Highland County grand jury returned an indictment on these charges. Coonrod was originally charged with two counts of felony child endangering.

Coonrod is accused of starting a fire in his Greenfield home last month. His two sons, ages 3 and 4, were unable to escape and were killed.

Highland County Prosecutor Jim Grandey told The Highland County Press that he will seek the death penalty in this case.

Coonrod continues to be held in the Highland County Jail.
