CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  - The line of family, friends, teachers and coaches stretched just about halfway around St. Xavier High School on Friday evening. It was full of mourners who came to pay their last respects to Senior Matt James.

James died a week ago today of blunt force trauma to the head, after falling from a balcony in Panama City, Florida during a spring break trip. The coroner said James had been drinking before the accident.

The 17-year old was a star football player who had committed to playing football at Notre Dame. The 290-lb. offensive lineman was an All-City and All-State football player.

Those who knew him said he was a gladiator on the field, but a sweet spirit off of it.

Friday's visitation will last until eight o'clock at Saint Xavier High School in Finneytown. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday. Service will begin at 10 a.m. at Saint Xavier church on Sycamore Street in Downtown Cincinnati.
