CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - It's a big deal at Kings Island. Planet Snoopy is up and running this season. It totally changes the kids area of the Warren County amusement park.
FOX19 spent the day out there with the faces we have come to know and love. Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Sally, Lucy, and Linus. They've all landed on Planet Snoopy at Kings Island.
"There's more than 18 rides and attractions here at Planet Snoopy," said Don Helbig, Media Coordinator for Kings Island. "We've got four rollercoasters, which is more than any other amusement park in the world has."
And they are designed especially with kids in mind.
"What we think is going to be one of the more popular attractions here in Planet Snoopy is "Race For Your Life Charlie Brown"," said Helbig. "it is a river adventure ride, everybody gets into kind of a little wooden trough, and they kind of go through the woods on a journey and then they race to the finish line."
Also new this year is a ride called "Boo Blasters on Boo Hill".
Once inside the dark tunnel, you take aim and shoot at ghosts and goblins as they leap out at you. At the end of the ride, you can see how well you scored against your friends.
"Kids, they've all heard about Snoopy, they know who he is, they know who Charlie Brown is, but they never had a chance to meet 'em," Helbig said.
The characters are very soft and cuddly and the kids really seemed to love giving their larger-than-life friends a big hug.
"She's soft!," squealed a little girl with delight, as she squeezed Lucy around the waist. She also gave her big kiss.
"Oh they're loving it," said her parents, Tiffany and Michael Koors of Dayton, OH. They loved the fact that Linus was there with his blue blanket.
"Our son's nickname used to be Linus," Koors said. "Because he has a little blue blanket that he carried around so he loved seeing Linus, that was his first thing, ah! that's my nickname!"
Then there's good ol' Charlie Brown with his wind-up, which is ride loaded with swings that spin round and round.
"Play ball!", the ride shouts before the spinning begins. It gave the kids a good whirl.
And wedged in-between the Red Baron plane rides, you catch glimpses of Woodstock's Whirlybirds, tiny helicopters that glide along a track and appear to be taking flight all over Planet Snoopy.
You can hang out in the pumpkin patch and ride the Great Pumpkin rollercoaster. Or take a flight on Sally's Sea Plane. Or how about the Flying Ace Aerial Chase rollercoaster?
And for all you Peanuts geeks, FOX19 Reporter Stefano DiPietrantonio included, there's the Snoopy Boutique, to get your collectible groove-on.
You can catch a wave on a giant spinning surf board at Surf Dog.
Planet Snoopy opens officially Saturday, April 17th, from 10am until 10pm. The park is open every weekend through May 21st, then it will be open every day for the summer.
