Strutz shows emotion during trial

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - John Strutz broke down and cried Thursday as prosecutors showed autopsy photos of his wife.

Strutz, of Delhi, is on trial for murdering and dismembering his wife, Kristan, 28.

Thursday, Dr. Mona Grettle Case Harlin Stephens, a deputy coroner for Hamilton County, testified on the autopsy she performed on Kristan Strutz.

As photos were shown in court, John Strutz began to cry.

Dr. Stephens sorted through Strutz's trash after Kristan's torso was found wrapped in several garbage bags. Kristan's lower abdomen, pelvis and the top of her thighs were in tact, but badly decomposed when the autopsy was performed.

Kristan had a tattoo on her lower back that appeared to have parts cut away in the autopsy photos. Prosecutors suggested that it was an attempt to conceal her identity when the remains were found.

Dr. Stephens said Kristan's cause of death is unknown,  but she was murder. The dismemberment did occur after she had already died.

A forensic anthropologist and  bone expert testified for nearly two hours about how Kristan's body was dismembered, concluding a bow hack saw was probably used, similar to one found in John Strutz's garbage can.

The trial continues on Monday.
